My family has owned 4 burbs (88, 91, 93, 97) , and they are a big part of my life growing up my aunts and uncles all driving them as well.

Im a Toyota guy these days but the Burb will always have a place in my heart.

It is pretty wild that its the longest running product in the car world and chevy doesnt even seem to try that hard on it. I mean how old is the 5.3 that most will be sold with? Clearly its endured so long just because its such known product,  there are no surprises with the ol burb.

it is funny they don’t trade on the length of the model name. Though from a certain perspective it isn’t, given that it wasn’t the official model name for the first 3 generations and wasn’t even their TM until 1988. Land Cruiser in that respect is the longest continuous running name plate.

It is funny— there STILL isn’t a vehicle quite as versatile as a Suburban. We’ve had a bunch of them over the years (still own at least three, I think) and they truly are a do-it-all. Family hauler. Tow rig. 4WD for skiing. Huge stowage space for handyman projects. Reliable as daybreak.

Every time they release a new generation, the first thing I notice is that aspect ratios of the B to C pillar to the back. I’m sure, carved in stone in Warren Michigan, is the F irst Commandment of Suburban Design— “Thou shall always be able to fold the seats flat and lay a 4x8 sheet of plywood fully in the confines of the rear, with full front seat legroom uncompromised.”

That “look” of the back window 3/4 view never has changed since 1936.  Never die, Suburban product line.  Never die.

Thanks for posting this BTW. Great period photos of those trucks over the years... (Was amused to see a quick view of a Gen 9 Tahoe that sneaked into the edit. Must have been to see if the editors were paying attention.)

Yeah, I have a total crush on these trucks.

They are insanely reliable... with all due respects to my beloved Land Cruisers.

I fondly remember my former 96. Bought it from the next door neighbor who was the original owner. I used it as the daily driver, tow vehicle and moderate off-road exploring vehicle around remote parts of NM for several years until a (presumably) drunk driver took it out and fled the scene on New Years Eve 2010. It tipped over on it’s side in the collision and slid down the road about 50 yards as it’s final activity.

I had replaced the original wheels with some 2nd gen Escalade wheels I bought cheap from a seriously shady tire shop in a part of El Paso white people usually aren’t found in to fit some Yokohama Geolander AT G015's in 265/70/17. Somewhat fittingly, the replacement truck for it ended up being a GMT400 Escalade.
